Xavier Majic is the Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Maple Rock. Prior to founding Maple Rock in April 2014, Xavier was with Lonestar Capital Management, a San Francisco-based $1 billion long/short equity/distressed debt fund, where he served as Managing Director. During his tenure there from 2011 to 2014, Xavier was a generalist with particular expertise in materials, energy and cyclicals. Previously, Xavier was with Passport Capital from 2006 to 2011, where he served as a Portfolio Manager of the Basic Materials Fund. Prior to Passport, Xavier spent a decade as a professional hockey player, and was a Captain of Team Canada in 1999 to 2000. Xavier holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering with Honors from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 1994, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, 2006.
Kristy Duchak is a Partner and Chief Operating Officer at Maple Rock1. Prior to joining in April 2014, Kristy led Business Development and Investor Relations at Stonerise Capital Partners, a San Francisco-based long/short equity firm from 2012 to 2014. Previously, Kristy was an Associate in Goldman Sachs’s Capital Introduction group, starting in the New York office in 2009 and transferring to the San Francisco office in 2011, where she was responsible for the firm’s West Coast Capital Introduction program. Kristy graduated from the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business with a B.S. in Finance and concentration in Accounting, 2009.
Stephen Lane is a Partner and Chief Financial Officer at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in November 2017, Stephen was Chief Financial Officer from 2012 to 2016 at Light Street Capital, a global long/short TMT manager. From 2011 to 2012, Stephen was Chief Financial Officer at FPR Partners, a private investment partnership with over $1 billion in assets, and from 2008 to 2011, he was Chief Financial Officer at Equanum Capital Management, a long/short equity manager focused on Asia. Stephen was with Bank of Bermuda from 2000 to 2006, most recently as Head of Asset Liability Management and, previously, Director of Finance ‐ Global Markets. Stephen was with Deloitte & Touche from 1996 to 2000, where he served as Manager. Stephen holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, 1996. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder and a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
Calvin Ngai is an Investment Partner at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in May 2014, Calvin was with the Special Situations Group of Crescent Capital from 2007 to 2013, where he served as an Associate focused on investment opportunities in distressed debt. Formerly part of Trust Company of the West’s Leveraged Finance Group, Crescent spun out of TCWin 2011 to become its own credit investment firm with $12 billion under management. From 2005 to 2007, Calvin was an investment banking analyst with UBS in Los Angeles. Calvin holds an Honors Business Administration with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School, 2005.
Logan Middleton is an Investment Partner at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in December 2014, Logan was with EdgeStoneCapital Partners from 2009 to 2014, a middle-market private equity firm in Canada, where he served as a Principal and focused on investment opportunities in industrials and business services. From 2008 to 2009, Logan was an Analyst at Ares Management in its Private Debt group and, from 2006 to 2008, he was an investment banking analyst with UBS in Los Angeles. Logan holds an Honors Business Administration with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School, 2006.
Charley Li is an Analyst at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in November 2021, Charley was a Senior Analyst at Islet Management from 2020 to 2021, where he focused on long and short investment opportunities in internet, media, and software. From 2019 to 2020, he was an Analyst at Point72 Asset Management, where he focused primarily on short selling in the TMT sector. Charley was an Analyst at Vernier Capital from 2015 to 2018, a global macro investor at Li Global Investors from 2013 to 2015, and a macro analyst at Sabretooth Capital from 2011 to 2012. He started his career as an analyst at Goldman Sachs in 2010. Charley holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, 2010.
Chase Southern is an Analyst at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in March 2020, Chase was a Senior Associate in the E&P Equity Research group at Citigroup from 2017 to 2020. From 2015 to 2017, Chase was a Commodity Analyst at PIRA Energy Group, where he focused primarily on oil macro fundamentals. From 2014 to 2015, Chase was an Analyst at Rockwood Investment Partners, a Dallas-based long/short equity fund. Chase holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Texas at Arlington, 2014.
Aaron Rabinovitch is an Analyst at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in August 2019, Aaron was an Analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch from 2017 to 2019. Aaron holds a dual Honors Business Administration and Bachelor of Science with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School, 2017.
Nolan Lypka is an Analyst at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in January 2022, Nolan was an Associate at Riverstone Holdings from 2020 to 2021. From 2017 to 2020, Nolan was an Analyst in the energy group at Moelis & Company. Nolan holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, 2017.
Christopher Tuszynski is an Analyst at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in August 2023, Chris was a Senior Associate at Polar Asset Management from 2021 to 2023, where he focused on long and short investment opportunities across the capital structure. From 2019 to 2021, Chris was an Associate in the Financial Sponsors group at CIBC Capital Markets. From 2017 to 2019, Chris was an Analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Valitas Capital Partners, a Toronto-based investment bank. Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Applied Economics with Distinction from Queen’s University, 2017.
Rick Pooran is the Financial Controller at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in November 2018, Rick was Associate Director of Client Operations at MUFG Investor Services. From 2014 to 2018, Rick held numerous positions at MUFG in their Fund Accounting Department. Rick holds a B.Com. with Distinction in Accounting and Finance from the University of Guelph, 2014. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Jenny Li is the Vice President of Operations at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in August 2020, Jenny was a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Assurance and Audit Group, where she audited financial services and asset management clients. Jenny holds a Master of Accounting, 2018, and a Bachelor of Mathematics with Distinction, 2017, from the University of Waterloo. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Stephanie Colella is the Assistant Controller at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in November 2023, Stephanie was a Senior Accountant at Deloitte in the Audit & Assurance Group, where she audited public and private clients within the real estate, consumer, and technology industries. Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Commerce with High Distinction from Rotman Commerce - University of Toronto, 2020. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant.
Omar Khan is the Chief of Staff at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in March 2022, Omar was the Lead Operationalisation Consultant at the IMC Hospital in 2021. From 2019 to 2021, Omar served as an Associate Consultant with Global Consultants. He also worked as Lead Writer and Production Manager at B19 Studios during this time. Omar holds a B.A. in Public Policy with a Minor in Global Health from Duke University, 2020.
Chloe Qi is a Data Analyst at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in February 2023, Chloe was a Senior Associate in the Financial Engineering and Modeling team at Deloitte in 2022. From 2020 to 2021, Chloe was a Risk Manager at Royal Bank of Canada, where she focused on credit provisioning analysis and reporting. Chloe holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Economics, 2018, and a Master of Engineering, 2019, both from the University of Toronto.
Stephanie Perry is an Investor Relations Associate at Maple Rock1. Prior to joining full time in August 2023, Stephanie was an Intern at Maple Rock during the Summer of 2022 and the Spring of 2023. Previously, she interned at the University of Cincinnati Investment Office. Stephanie graduated from the University of Cincinnati Lindner School of Business with a B.B.A. in Finance, 2023.
Dagmara Brzozowski is an Executive Assistant at Maple Rock. Prior to joining in May 2023, Dagmara was with Gallagher Re, a reinsurance brokerage firm, where she was part of the executive assistant team that supported the C-suite and other senior executives from 2022 to 2023. Previously, Dagmara managed her boutique property staging and interior decorating business. From 2018 to 2020, Dagmara was a Senior Administrative Assistant at NortonLifeLock. She began her career in retail management. Dagmara holds a Diploma in Fashion Technology and Design from George Brown College, 2001.
